COKE BELDA

The (Power Pop) songs on Nummer Zwei has been described as “ear candy”.

What was the biggest fun during the making of the last album?

Well, the recording part is always fun, but this time I have to choose the days I spent with Anders Hellgren at his studio in Stockholm, Sweden, for mixing the songs. Anders is an amazing musician and has a magical touch. All my tracks improved radically and the resulting final mix was amazing. So much fun!

If we want to know you, which song do we have to listen to? And why?

I would say that probably Where I Am is the song that has everything I like. Nice acoustic guitars, melodies and harmonies everywhere, then some power guitars for a bridge, slide guitar solo and a catchy chorus… all my influences are in there.

The music industry has changed a lot (or so they say). What did it bring you? And what not?

I´ve never been part of the industry. I was born as part of a music minority and probably I will die in the same way! I´ve recorded few records with other bands, and now doing my own albums, but never with the aim of being in the charts. For me, reaching the amount of audience I´m reaching today is far enough. Only thinking that some person is listening to my record in Canada, USA, Australia or Japan is all I need to be happy.

Born in Spain, living in Germany. What’s the story?

No big deal, we (the family) moved to Stuttgart, Germany, for work reasons. It has been so far a very good experience, and we don´t know what the future will bring. The bad part is that I´ve lost my band, or my musicians friends that we used to play often and now I´m doing my gigs with some backing tracks, that´s bad! The good part is that every time we visit Spain, we give a nice concert and it feels more special.

Who is the best musician in the world nobody has heard of yet?

That nobody has heard yet I don´t know. My idol during the past 2 decades is Jason Falkner. That´s the mirror I try to look and learn from him and his music everyday. For me, he is the Paul McCartney of our generation, far away from the rest. I met recently a great musician, John Brodeur, he is pretty amazing too!

She tells you she will decide on a 5-song-mix tape if there is going to be a second date. Which 5 would you put on?

Hahaha, from my record? I will put You´re Not In Love, Miss You, Where I Am, Glue and Everybody Needs… the second date is 100% real!

From other artists? Falkner´s She Goes To Bed, Beatles´ In My Life, Del Amitri´s Roll To Me, Brighter Day by Jellyfish and Lonely Boy by Andrew Gold… is this a date?

What’s up for the next couple of months?

Trying to finish some new songs I have as demos, try to define the style for the next record by getting some new influences and enjoy life!
